UCC mourns lecturer and teaching assistant killed in road crash

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic deaths of a senior lecturer and his teaching assistant who were killed in a road accident on Tuesday.

The victims have been identified as Dr Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang of the Department of Geography and Regional Planning and Peter Amoadu-Asmah, his teaching assistant.

According to reports, the two lost their lives after they were crushed by a tipper truck at Third Ridge along the Cape Coast–Accra highway.

UCC Issues Statement of Condolence

In an official statement, the university described the incident as a painful loss to the institution.

“The management of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has received with profound shock and deep sorrow the untimely passing of one of its distinguished faculty members, Dr Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang, and Mr Peter Amoadu-Asmah, his teaching assistant.”

The statement added that both men died in a tragic motor accident at Third Ridge on the Cape Coast–Accra highway.

The statement, signed by Acting Director of Public Affairs Dr Kwabena Antwi-Konadu, described Dr Agyemang as a committed academic and respected member of the university community.

The university also paid tribute to Peter Amoadu-Asmah, who was serving as a National Service person and teaching assistant.

UCC noted that he had distinguished himself academically as the overall best graduating student in the department.

UCC Calls for Sensitivity

The university extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and urged the public, especially the media, to handle reportage of the incident with care and sensitivity.

“Management and the entire university community extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.”

Profile of Dr Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang

Dr Agyemang served as senior lecturer in the Department of Geography and Regional Planning from February 2022 until his passing in April 2026.

He had previously lectured in the same department between 2009 and 2022.

Profile of Peter Amoadu-Asmah

Peter Amoadu-Asmah attended Methodist Senior High School before enrolling at UCC.

He studied BSc Geography and Regional Planning from 2021 to 2025 and later served as a teaching assistant in the department.

He also completed internships with the Mfantsiman Municipal Assembly in 2023 and 2024.

The deaths of Dr Agyemang and Peter Amoadu-Asmah have left the UCC community in mourning, with students, staff and alumni paying tribute to two promising lives lost too soon.
