The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reportedly received more than 600 applications for the vacant Black Stars head coach position following the dismissal of Otto Addo.

GFA President Kurt Okraku confirmed the overwhelming response, underscoring the global appeal of one of Africa’s most high-profile national team roles.

“We have received over 600 applications for the Black Stars job,” Okraku revealed in an interview with 3Sports.

The coaching position became vacant after Addo was relieved of his duties in the wake of a string of disappointing results, including defeats to Austria and Germany, culminating in a late-night decision taken in Stuttgart.

The significant number of applications reflects both the prestige associated with leading Ghana’s senior national team and the urgency surrounding preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The GFA is expected to commence a rigorous screening and shortlisting process, with a mix of local and international coaches believed to be under consideration.

Okraku has indicated that a new appointment could be finalised within one to two weeks as the association moves swiftly to avoid disruptions to the team’s build-up.

Ghana is scheduled to play friendly matches against Mexico and Wales ahead of the tournament, before facing Panama, Croatia, and England in the group stage of the World Cup.

The upcoming appointment is widely viewed as critical, with the GFA seeking a manager capable of delivering immediate results while also establishing a clear long-term vision for the Black Stars.
