CCTV not working as hotel management denies Black Stars camp robbery

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has involved local police in investigating an alleged theft at the Black Stars’ hotel in Vienna ahead of their pre-World Cup friendly against Austria.
Reports surfaced that players’ valuables, including high-end watches and cash, went missing during the team’s stay. Two players reportedly lost Rolex watches valued at around $20,000, while a technical team member later discovered $2,250 in cash missing.

In response, the GFA acted swiftly, notifying local authorities to ensure a proper investigation. However, the hotel management has denied that a break-in occurred, citing non-functioning CCTV cameras as a major obstacle to verifying the incident.
Despite the disruption, the Black Stars remain focused on their preparations. They are scheduled to face Austria at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion this evening, with kick-off set for 17:00 GMT.
Following that match, head coach Otto Addo and his squad will travel to Stuttgart for a friendly against Germany on Monday, March 30. Both friendlies are critical as Ghana fine-tunes its squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
