The Government of Cambodia has issued a strict directive ordering African nationals benefiting from immigration waivers to exit the country by May 31, 2026, or face arrest, imprisonment, and heavy financial penalties.

According to a notice from Cambodia’s General Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Interior, the waiver currently extended to nationals from several African countries, including Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, and Uganda, will officially expire on the stated deadline.

Authorities instructed all affected foreigners who have resolved their immigration fines or issues to leave Cambodia on or before May 31, 2026.

“Any foreign national who enters, remains, or is found in Cambodia from the 1st of June, 2026, will be arrested at the airport or at any location,” the statement warned.

The directive further indicated that offenders could face a two-year jail term alongside an $8,000 fine before deportation procedures are completed.

"Cambodian police will start arresting any foreigner at any hideout in Cambodia from the 1st of June, 2026, for overstay and will hand them over to the immigration authorities for legal action,” the notice added.

Signed by Lt. Gen. Som Sopheak, Director General of Immigration, and approved by Gen. Sar Sokha, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Interior, the statement urged full compliance with immigration laws.

“The Royal Government of Cambodia will not tolerate any violation of our immigration laws,” the notice stressed.

The policy is expected to impact several African nationals currently living in Cambodia under temporary waivers or overstayed residency arrangements.
