Mikel Arteta has been crowned the Barclays Premier League Manager of the Season for the first time after guiding Arsenal to the 2025/26 Premier League title.

The triumph marks a historic moment for the Gunners, who secured their first league crown in 22 years since the legendary “Invincibles” campaign under Arsène Wenger in the 2003/04 season.

Arteta becomes the first Arsenal manager since Wenger to win the prestigious award, with Wenger previously claiming it during all three of his title-winning campaigns in 1997/98, 2001/02, and 2003/04.

After finishing runners-up in three consecutive seasons, Arteta finally led Arsenal to Premier League glory, edging out Manchester City in the penultimate matchweek to clinch the title.

How Arteta Transformed Arsenal Into Champions

Arsenal’s title-winning success was built on defensive solidity and tactical discipline throughout the campaign.

The North London side recorded 19 clean sheets in 38 league matches and conceded just 27 goals—both are the best defensive statistics in the Premier League this season.

Going forward, Arsenal also impressed in attack, scoring 71 league goals, the second-highest tally in the division behind Manchester City’s 77.

Arteta also made history by becoming the first manager to win the Premier League with a club he previously represented as a player. The Spaniard played for Arsenal between 2011 and 2016 before later taking charge of the team.

At 44 years and 54 days old, Arteta is now the third-youngest manager to win the Premier League title. Only José Mourinho achieved the feat at a younger age during his early title-winning years with Chelsea.

The award was decided through a combination of public votes and selections from a panel of football experts.

Other managers shortlisted for the award included Keith Andrews of Brentford, Michael Carrick of Manchester United, Pep Guardiola of Manchester City, Andoni Iraola of AFC Bournemouth, and Régis Le Bris of Sunderland.
