Bibiani Gold Stars F.C. narrowed the gap at the summit of the Ghana Premier League to just one point after securing a dramatic 2-1 victory over fellow title challengers Accra Hearts of Oak S.C. at Dun’s Park on Sunday.

The Miners capitalised on Medeama S.C.’s slip-up – a goalless draw against Swedru All Blacks F.C. by claiming maximum points to boost their championship ambitions.

Gold Stars made a strong start, taking the lead in the 15th minute through Samuel Acheampong, who finished clinically to hand the hosts an early advantage.

Hearts of Oak struggled to gain control in the first half but remained within touching distance thanks to a string of impressive saves from goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, ensuring the score remained 1-0 at the interval.

The visitors emerged for the second half with greater urgency and were rewarded in the 64th minute when Henry Kwaku Boateng found the equaliser, setting up a tense finale.

Just as the contest appeared headed for a draw, Augustine Boakye delivered the decisive moment, netting a dramatic winner in the 90th minute to spark jubilant celebrations among the home supporters.

The defeat leaves Hearts of Oak five points behind the league leaders, having missed another opportunity to close the gap. They are now winless in their last two matches since their Super Clash victory over Asante Kotoko S.C.

With only a handful of points separating the top contenders, the title race remains finely poised, as Hearts of Oak sit third in a tightly contested standings battle.
