Berekum Chelsea have officially confirmed the tragic passing of their forward, Dominic Frimpong, following a violent armed robbery attack on the club’s team bus on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred while the team was returning to Berekum after their Ghana Premier League Matchday 29 encounter against FC Samartex at Dun’s Park, a fixture they lost 1-0.

In a statement, the club disclosed that the team bus was ambushed along the Bibiani–Goaso road near Ahyiresu. Armed assailants reportedly blocked the highway, forcing players and officials to abandon the vehicle and flee into nearby bushes to seek safety.

Amid the ensuing chaos, several members of the team sustained injuries. Frimpong, aged 20, reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, who remain at large. Authorities are also working to locate some players and officials who became separated during the attack.

Frimpong joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January, with the deal expected to run until the end of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season. He made 13 appearances for the club, scoring two goals before his untimely death.
