Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Athletic Club (Wydad AC) put on a stunning display in Casablanca, thrashing Asante Kotoko 5-1 to complete a 6-1 aggregate triumph and advance to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
The Red Castle were in blistering form, thrilling their home supporters with a relentless attacking performance that left the Ghanaian giants stunned. Hamza Hannouri opened the floodgates early, followed by a composed strike from Stephane Aziz Ki. After the break, Thembinkosi Lorch, Oussama Zemraoui, and Mohamed Bouchouari each added their names to the scoresheet as Wydad cruised to a dominant win.
Asante Kotoko started with intent, keeping the match competitive in the opening 30 minutes and even netting an equaliser. However, a string of defensive errors and midfield breakdowns allowed Wydad to seize control and dismantle their resistance.
The result ends Kotoko’s CAF Confederation Cup journey and leaves Ghana without a representative in this season’s continental competitions—a tough blow for Ghanaian football’s reputation on the African stage.
For Wydad AC, the emphatic victory reinforces their standing as one of Africa’s most feared clubs, as they march confidently into the group stage chasing yet another continental title.
After the painful defeat in Casablanca, the Porcupine Warriors have returned home determined to bounce back. Guided by coach Karim Zito, Kotoko will now shift focus to the Ghana Premier League, where they aim to regroup, rebuild, and challenge for domestic glory.
