Spain have climbed to the summit of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking for the first time in over a decade, following their UEFA EURO 2024 triumph. It marks their first return to the top spot since June 2014.
Former leaders and reigning world champions Argentina have dropped two places to third, overtaken by both Spain and France, the latter moving up to second.
Elsewhere in the top 10, Portugal (5th), Croatia (9th), and Italy (10th) all gained a place, capitalising on Brazil’s slip to sixth and Germany’s fall to 12th. The Germans’ decline follows a surprise defeat to Slovakia, who are this edition’s biggest movers — climbing 10 spots to 42nd and re-entering the top 50.
Morocco continue to impress, rising to 11th after winning eight of their last nine matches, while several other nations made notable gains. The Gambia (115th, +8), Madagascar (108th, +7), Paraguay (37th, +6), Uganda (82nd, +6), Libya (112th, +5), Suriname (131st, +5), and the Faroe Islands (136th, +5) were among the standout climbers.
World Cup 2026 co-hosts Canada (26th) and Kosovo (91st) also achieved new milestones, continuing their upward trajectory in recent years.
In total, more than 200 international matches — largely World Cup 2026 qualifiers across Africa, Europe, and the Americas — shaped the latest ranking.
