The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged the Minority Caucus in Parliament to remain firm and focused in holding the government accountable as Parliament resumes sitting on Thursday, May 21. Addressing the caucus on Wednesday, May 20, ahead of the reconvening of Parliament, Dr. Bawumia commended members for what he described as their strong performance in scrutinising government policies and actions.

He said the role of the Minority goes beyond their numerical strength in the House, stressing that they carry the expectations of NPP supporters and many Ghanaians.

According to him, the Minority Caucus serves as a key institution of accountability and oversight, particularly at a time when citizens are assessing the government’s ability to deliver on its promises.

Dr. Bawumia emphasised that the Minority is not a passive observer in Parliament but a critical force in safeguarding democratic accountability and reassuring the public.

“The role you play from this Thursday is bigger than the seats we occupy. You are the Parliamentary face of the hope that millions of Ghanaians still have in the NPP. You are the expression of the ambition and plans of our party for the people of Ghana.Sports news Ghana

“Do not underestimate your place in this moment. In opposition, the Minority Caucus is not a spectator. You are the first line of accountability, the first line of policy scrutiny, and the first line of reassurance for citizens who are beginning to ask whether the promises made to them were merely thought-through or merely crafted for campaign applause and deception,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia further expressed confidence in the caucus, praising their intellect, political experience, courage, and commitment to both the NPP and the country.

“I believe in this caucus, I believe in your intellect, courage, experience, political instincts and your love for NPP and Ghana,” he added.
