Liverpool snatched all three points in stunning fashion at St James’ Park, with 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha scoring a dramatic 100th-minute winner in a 3-2 victory over Newcastle United. The teenager’s decisive strike extended the Magpies’ miserable run against the Reds to 18 league matches without a win (D5, L13).

All the pre-match talk revolved around Alexander Isak’s uncertain future, but once the whistle blew, it was all action. The atmosphere was electric on Tyneside as both sides flew into tackles, with Ryan Gravenberch earning an early booking on his return from suspension.

Newcastle carved out the better chances early on, with Anthony Gordon spurning three quick opportunities. But Liverpool punished the hosts when Gravenberch unleashed a 30-yard thunderbolt, beating Nick Pope to open the scoring.

The visitors’ task was made easier just before halftime when Gordon saw red after a VAR review for a reckless challenge on Virgil van Dijk, leaving the Magpies with a mountain to climb.

Liverpool wasted no time after the restart, doubling their lead within 20 seconds. Cody Gakpo’s initial effort was blocked, but he set up Hugo Ekitike, who calmly finished into the bottom corner — his third goal in as many games.

Despite being a man down, Newcastle fought back. Bruno Guimarães halved the deficit, heading home Tino Livramento’s teasing cross in the 57th minute.

That goal reignited the home crowd, and in the 88th minute, Newcastle completed their comeback when William Osula capitalised on a defensive lapse to slot past Alisson, levelling the score at 2-2.

Ngumoha’s Historic Moment

Just when it seemed the Magpies had secured a valuable point, Liverpool had the final say.

Deep into stoppage time, Mohamed Salah whipped in a low cross that found substitute Rio Ngumoha, who showed composure beyond his years by curling a superb finish into the corner.

The teenager’s first senior goal proved decisive, sparking wild celebrations among the travelling fans.
