Barcelona began their 2025-26 LaLiga campaign in style, securing a convincing 3-0 victory against a nine-man Mallorca in a chaotic match at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix.

The game was marked by contentious refereeing decisions, two red cards, and a dominant performance from the reigning champions.

First-Half Dominance and Controversy

Barcelona took control early, with Raphinha opening the scoring in the seventh minute.

The Brazilian expertly headed home a pinpoint cross from 16-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal, leaving Mallorca goalkeeper Leo Roman with no chance.

The visitors doubled their lead in controversial fashion when Ferran Torres fired into the top corner after Mallorca defender Antonio Raillo went down injured following a headed clearance.

Despite protests from Mallorca players, the referee allowed play to continue, and Torres’ strike stood.

Mallorca’s discipline unravelled before halftime, with Manu Morlanes and Vedat Muriqi both receiving red cards within six minutes.

Muriqi’s dismissal, for a reckless high challenge on Joan Garcia, left the hosts with an uphill battle.

Yamal Seals the Win in Stoppage Time

Despite being two men down, Mallorca defended resolutely in the second half.

However, Yamal put the game beyond doubt in stoppage time with a dazzling solo effort, capping off a memorable performance.

Key Stats and Historical Notes

  • Red Card Chaos: Mallorca became the first LaLiga team since Getafe in 2007 to receive two red cards in a season opener.
  • Raphinha Matches Ronaldinho: The Brazilian’s early goal made him the first Barcelona player from Brazil to score the season’s first league goal since Ronaldinho in 2007.
