Cristian Chivu made a sensational start to life as Inter Milan manager, guiding the Nerazzurri to a commanding 5-0 victory over Torino — their biggest win against the Granata since the 1958/59 Serie A season.
After narrowly missing out on back-to-back Scudettos last term, Inter kicked off their 2025/26 Serie A campaign in emphatic fashion.
Alessandro Bastoni opened the scoring in the 18th minute, rising to meet Nicolo Barella’s pinpoint corner and glancing a header past Torino goalkeeper Franco Israel.
The San Siro crowd had more to celebrate before halftime as Marcus Thuram punished sloppy defending, sliding a neat finish into the net to double Inter’s lead.
Inter resumed the second half with the same intensity, and captain Lautaro Martinez capitalised on a poor Torino backpass to fire home the third, effectively sealing the contest.
Thuram struck again just past the hour mark, heading in a Bastoni cross for his brace, before substitute Ange-Yoan Bonny added the finishing touch.
Martinez pounced on another defensive error and unselfishly teed up his strike partner to complete the rout.
With reigning champions Napoli already winning their opening game, Inter responded in style, sending a clear message that they are ready to challenge strongly for the Scudetto this season.
