The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that several areas in Accra will experience temporary power outages in the early hours of Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

According to ECG, the disruption follows the recent fire outbreak at the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) substation at Akosombo Dam, which has significantly reduced electricity supply to the Accra West Region.

Power Interruption Time

In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 28, ECG said electricity supply in affected areas will be curtailed between the following times:

  • 12:00am

  • 6:00am

The planned outage is aimed at helping engineers stabilise the power system and manage the reduced supply capacity.

The company stated that electricity will be restored immediately once the generation profile improves.

ECG also apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused and thanked the public for their patience and understanding.

The announcement comes as authorities continue working to resolve the impact of the Akosombo substation fire and restore normal electricity flow to affected parts of Greater Accra.

Residents and businesses in impacted communities are advised to make the necessary preparations ahead of the temporary outage.
