Emile Smith Rowe came off the bench to score with his first touch and rescue a point for Fulham in their 1-1 Premier League draw against Manchester United at Craven Cottage, preventing what would have been a ninth consecutive home league defeat to the Red Devils.
United, who showed signs of progress in their narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal last week, started brightly along the Thames.
Matheus Cunha went close with a long-range effort before hitting the post after a slick combination with Patrick Dorgu and Mason Mount.
Bruno Fernandes also saw his shot well saved by Bernd Leno, as the visitors dominated the early exchanges.
The pressure eventually earned United a penalty after Calvin Bassey brought down Mount inside the box.
However, Fernandes uncharacteristically blazed his spot-kick over the bar, squandering a golden chance to break the deadlock.
Unitedâs persistence was rewarded shortly before the hour mark when Bryan Mbeumoâs corner was flicked on by Leny Yoro, with Rodrigo Munizâs deflection wrong-footing Leno to give the visitors a deserved lead.
Marco Silva responded with a double substitution, bringing on RaĂșl JimĂ©nez and Smith Rowe.
The move paid off instantly, as Smith Rowe connected with Alex Iwobiâs cross to steer a clever finish past Altay Bayındır, levelling the score.
Both sides pressed for a late winner, with Harry Maguire heading narrowly wide for United in the closing stages.
However, neither team could find the breakthrough, leaving Ruben Amorimâs men frustrated with just seven wins from their opening 29 league matches.
