ECG restores Ahodwo power after over 5 feet python invasion at substation - Video
Engineers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti Region have successfully restored electricity supply to residents of Ahodwo after a dramatic incident involving a python infestation at one of the company’s substations.
The power outage occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2026, when a fault on a distribution feeder disrupted supply to residents along the Ahodwo–Daban–Dr Asafo Adjei Road in Kumasi.
Following the incident, a fault response team from the ECG Ahinsan District was immediately dispatched to assess the problem and restore electricity to affected communities. While engineers were able to reconnect power to some parts of the area, customers around the Cocoa Depot and Star Sawmill enclave remained without supply due to a persistent technical fault.

As the team worked to resolve the issue, they moved to a nearby transformer to replace a blown fuse. However, they made an unexpected discovery after spotting a python hiding inside the substation.
The Ahinsan District Engineer, Kwaku Appiah, confirmed the incident and explained that some residents initially attempted to capture the reptile but were unsuccessful after it retreated beneath the substation structure.
Despite the dangerous situation, ECG engineers continued repair works to ensure power was restored to affected households and businesses.

To safely remove the reptiles, the Kumasi Zoo was contacted for assistance. During the operation, officials discovered that more than one snake was living at the facility. Reports indicate that both adult snakes and eggs were later retrieved from the substation at about 9:00 p.m. the same day, suggesting the reptiles had occupied the site for some time.
Meanwhile, the general manager of ECG’s Ashanti West Region, George Amoah, has urged customers to report power outages promptly through official ECG channels or designated stakeholder WhatsApp platforms to enable quicker response times and faster resolution of faults.
