iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max to Feature 35 Percent Smaller Dynamic Island - reports
Although Apple only launched the iPhone 17 series in September 2025, speculation surrounding its successor is already gaining momentum.
According to a reliable industry tipster, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could introduce a significantly smaller Dynamic Island, marking one of the most notable design refinements in recent years.
Renowned tipster Ice Universe claims Apple may reduce the size of the Dynamic Island from 20.7 mm on the iPhone 17 Pro models to approximately 13.49 mm on the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, representing a reduction of around 35 percent.
This change is reportedly made possible by Apple’s work on under-display infrared sensors, which could partially relocate Face ID components beneath the screen.

The pill-shaped Dynamic Island was first introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022, replacing the long-standing notch design. Beyond housing the selfie camera and Face ID sensors, it also powers interactive features such as Live Activities, real-time alerts, navigation prompts, and media controls.
Under-Display Face ID Technology in Development
Previous reports suggest Apple is developing under-display infrared sensors for biometric authentication. If implemented, this technology would allow the company to further shrink—or potentially eliminate—the Dynamic Island in future iPhone models.
For the iPhone 18 Pro series, the design is expected to retain a smaller Dynamic Island, with the selfie camera remaining visible while some Face ID components operate beneath the display. However, not all Face ID elements are expected to be fully hidden under the screen at this stage.
This transitional design approach is reportedly set to remain in place through 2026 and 2027, as Apple gradually refines its under-display sensor technology.

Selfie Camera Placement Likely to Remain Centered
There have also been rumors suggesting Apple might move the front-facing camera to the top-left corner of the display on the iPhone 18 lineup.
However, Ice Universe has dismissed these claims, indicating that the selfie camera will remain centrally positioned, embedded within the reduced Dynamic Island. Only portions of the Face ID sensor array may be shifted slightly to the left.
Launch Timeline
The iPhone 18 series is expected to debut at Apple’s annual September event, in line with the company’s traditional release schedule. With several months remaining until launch, more leaks and details are likely to emerge as development continues.
As always, Apple has not officially commented on the reports, and final specifications may change ahead of release.
