Chelsea has officially confirmed the appointment of Xabi Alonso as the club’s new men’s team manager on a four-year contract, marking the beginning of a new era at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard will officially take charge on July 1, 2026, as Chelsea place their trust in one of Europe’s most highly rated young coaches to lead the next phase of their project.

Alonso arrives at Stamford Bridge following highly successful managerial spells with Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, where he made history by guiding Leverkusen to their first-ever Bundesliga title in the 2023/24 season, achieved without a single defeat.

“From my conversations with the ownership group and sporting leadership, it is clear we share the same ambition. We want to build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level and fighting for trophies.”

“There is great talent in the squad and huge potential at this football club, and it will be my great honour to lead it. Now the focus is on hard work, building the right culture, and winning trophies.”

Alonso enjoyed a decorated playing career, winning 17 major honours for club and country, including the 2010 FIFA World Cup with the Spain national football team.

Chelsea are confident that Alonso’s arrival will usher in a new period of sustained success at Stamford Bridge as the club looks to return to the summit of English and European football.
