Wolverhampton Wanderers have been mathematically relegated from the Premier League following West Ham United’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

The result at Selhurst Park proved decisive, as West Ham moved further clear of the relegation zone, leaving Wolves stranded on 17 points well adrift of safety with just five matches remaining.

The points gap is now insurmountable, confirming their drop to the EFL Championship.

It marks the end of an eight-year stay in the top flight for Wolves, who last suffered relegation in 2012.

Their fall is particularly striking given the heights they reached after promotion in 2018.

Wolves impressed immediately, finishing seventh in their first season back, before repeating the feat and reaching the UEFA Europa League semi-finals in the 2019/20 campaign.

However, the gradual departure of key players and inconsistency in performance saw them slide down the table in subsequent seasons.

This campaign proved disastrous from the outset, with Wolves losing their opening five matches and failing to win any of their first 19 league games, effectively sealing their fate early.

Managerial changes, including the arrival of Rob Edwards, brought some improvement, but the Midlands club never mounted a serious survival push.
