Mbappe scores twice as Real Madrid beat Oviedo

Kylian Mbappé showcased his lethal finishing with two goals as Real Madrid cruised to a 3-0 victory over Real Oviedo at the Estadio Municipal Carlos Tartiere, maintaining their unbeaten run in seven straight head-to-head meetings with the newly-promoted side.
After edging Osasuna in Xabi Alonso’s LaLiga managerial debut, Madrid entered the tie with confidence.

Vinícius Júnior surprisingly started on the bench, with Rodrygo testing Oviedo goalkeeper Aarón Escandell early on. Despite limited chances in the first half, it was Mbappé who broke the deadlock with a sharp turn and strike from Arda Güler’s pass just before the interval.
Oviedo showed resilience after the break, enjoying more possession, but couldn’t find a way past Thibaut Courtois.

Madrid’s quality eventually shone through, as Vinícius set up Mbappé for his second goal to seal the points.
The French star nearly grabbed a hat-trick, but Escandell denied him with a fine save. Vinícius later added a late third to cap off Madrid’s dominant performance.
The win means Real Madrid have now claimed back-to-back victories under Alonso without conceding, while Oviedo remain winless and goalless in their opening two matches of the 2025/26 season.
