Asante Kotoko returned to winning ways on Wednesday afternoon with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Young Apostles, ending their two-match winless streak in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors hosted the newly promoted side at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in a rescheduled Week 6 encounter.

Kotoko dominated the opening half with sustained pressure and fluid build-up play, but their wastefulness in the final third meant the first 45 minutes ended goalless.

Six minutes after the restart, midfielder Hubert Gyau produced a sensational long-range strike to hand Kotoko a deserved lead.

However, the advantage was short-lived. Young Apostles responded just three minutes later through Richmond Opoku, who finished off an impressive team move with a well-timed header to level the score.

The game opened up from that moment, with both sides pushing for a winner in an end-to-end affair. Kotoko continued to carve out chances, driven by urgency and the need to halt their slump.

Their persistence paid off deep into stoppage time when captain Samba O’Neil converted a late penalty, securing a crucial 2–1 win for the Reds.

The victory lifts Asante Kotoko to 5th place on the league table with 19 points and one outstanding match still to be played.
