England World Cup camp hit by earthquake in Florida ahead of Costa Rica friendly

England’s 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations have been unexpectedly disrupted after an earthquake struck near their training base in West Palm Beach, Florida, just a day before their final warm-up match against Costa Rica.
The seismic event, measuring 6.1 in magnitude, is reported to be the strongest in the region in around 150 years. It originated off the west coast of Cuba but was felt across parts of Florida, including Flagler County, Orlando, and Miami.
Buildings Evacuated as Tremors Hit Florida Cities
Several buildings across affected areas were evacuated after residents reported shaking caused by the earthquake. The sudden tremors prompted concern among locals, although authorities quickly moved to reassure the public.

The National Weather Service confirmed that there is no tsunami risk to the United States following the quake. An official update stated there is no tsunami danger.
A spokesperson from the US Geological Survey told Fox 35 that authorities are continuing to receive reports from people who felt the earthquake and warned that aftershocks are likely following a seismic event of this magnitude.
England Camp Continues World Cup Preparations
England have been based in Florida since arriving in the United States last week as part of their build-up to the tournament, with training sessions and friendly matches scheduled across the Sunshine State.
Thomas Tuchel’s side recently secured a 1-0 victory over New Zealand in Tampa, with Harry Kane scoring the only goal of the match. The team is now preparing to face Costa Rica in Orlando in their final warm-up fixture.

After the friendly, England will relocate to their main World Cup base in Kansas City, Missouri, as preparations intensify ahead of the tournament.
World Cup Fixtures Ahead for the Three Lions
England will begin their World Cup campaign against Croatia in Arlington, near Dallas, on June 17. They will then face Ghana in Boston on June 23 before concluding their group-stage matches against Panama in New Jersey on June 27.
Depending on their progress, England could face additional travel across North America, with potential knockout fixtures including matches as far as Mexico City.
Despite the unexpected natural disruption in Florida, England’s camp is expected to continue its preparations as planned ahead of the global tournament.
