Who can benefit from the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares) & list of enlisted hospitals
Many Ghanaians have expressed concerns about how to access support from the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as Mahama Cares. The fund's administrator has outlined clear eligibility and access procedures for applicants seeking medical assistance.
Who Can Benefit from the Trust Fund?
To qualify for support under the Fund, applicants must meet the following key requirements:
Must be a Ghanaian citizen
Must hold a valid National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card
Must be diagnosed with a medical condition covered under the Fund’s approved treatment list
Authorities emphasise that patients cannot walk directly into the secretariat to request assistance. Instead, the process is fully digital and handled with dignity through medical professionals.
Applications are initiated only by specialist clinicians at accredited hospitals through a dedicated digital platform.
