What triggered viral Nyinahin SHS teacher assault on female student revealed

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has disclosed new details surrounding the arrest of a teacher at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School following a viral video that allegedly showed him assaulting a female student.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Eric Buernortey Apaflo, was arrested on June 8, 2026, by a patrol team from the Nyinahin District Police Command after reports emerged of an alleged assault on an 18-year-old student, Patience Chibu.
Police Reveal What Triggered the Incident
According to preliminary police investigations, the teacher, who also serves as a caretaker of one of the school's hostels, confronted the female student and several male students over alleged misconduct within the hostel premises.
Police say the confrontation escalated into a misunderstanding between the parties, resulting in the alleged assault that has since attracted widespread public attention after a video of the incident circulated on social media.

Students React After Incident
The police further revealed that the incident sparked outrage among some students, who reportedly pelted the teacher with stones following the confrontation.
Authorities also indicated that some students allegedly invited youth from the Nyinahin community to the school with the intention of attacking the suspect at the hostel.
However, the situation was swiftly brought under control following the intervention of a police patrol team, preventing further escalation.
Victim Undergoes Medical Examination
The Ashanti Regional Police Command stated that a police medical report form has been issued to the victim to facilitate medical examination and treatment.
