WAEC cancels results of over 7,000 candidates over examination irregularities

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has cancelled the results of thousands of candidates who sat the 2025 WASSCE for School Candidates, following investigations into widespread examination irregularities.
In a statement issued after the 40th meeting of the Ghana Examinations Committee on Wednesday, 17 November 2025, the Council announced the cancellation of subject results for 6,295 candidates for bringing foreign materials — including prepared notes, textbooks and printed material — into the examination halls.

The Committee also cancelled the entire results of 653 candidates who were found in possession of mobile phones during the examinations.
Additionally, WAEC has withheld the subject results of 908 candidates and the entire results of a further 158 candidates over various suspected offences. According to the Council, results from 185 schools have also been withheld over alleged collusion, with investigations still ongoing. WAEC says it is working to ensure that the outstanding cases are concluded and that the withheld results are released by the end of December 2025, depending on the outcome of the investigations.
Beyond student misconduct, the Council revealed that 35 individuals — including 19 teachers — were implicated in actions that compromised the integrity of the examinations. Nineteen of them have already been arraigned and convicted, receiving fines or prison terms, while the remaining 16 are expected to be presented before the courts in due course. WAEC added that the list of implicated teachers will be submitted to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service for further disciplinary action.
WAEC expressed its gratitude to the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, the security agencies, heads of school, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and all stakeholders who supported the successful conduct of the examinations and the release of the 2025 results.
The statement was signed by the Head of Public Affairs, John K. Kapi, on behalf of the Head of the National Office.
