The National Identification Authority (NIA) has officially commenced the registration of Ghanaian children between the ages of six and 14 at all its premium centres nationwide.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the Authority said the exercise falls in line with its mandate to register all Ghanaians, both home and abroad, to guarantee every citizen a secure and verifiable national identity.

The initiative also supports the NIA’s broader goal of developing a comprehensive and inclusive National Identity Register (NIR) that captures citizens from childhood.

The fee for first-time registration at premium centres is set at GHC310, in accordance with approved service charges. Parents or legal guardians must present one of the following documents on behalf of their children:

  • A valid Ghanaian passport of the child; or

  • The original copy of the child’s birth certificate; or

  • A Ghana Card holder parent or legal guardian who can vouch for the child.

  • NIA Press Statement

The Authority further announced that, effective Monday, September 15, 2025, its online registration and booking system will be extended to all 11 remaining premium centres across the country. This upgrade will allow applicants to conveniently schedule appointments for a smoother process.

The NIA assured the public that Ghana Cards for children already registered will be issued soon. It also revealed plans to expand registration services to all NIA district offices nationwide in the coming weeks to enhance access.
