Man seen beating wife in viral video arrested

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested the man captured in a viral Facebook video assaulting a woman believed to be his wife at Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality.
The suspect, identified as John Odartey Lamptey, was apprehended on Monday, November 17, 2025, at his family residence after the disturbing footage sparked widespread public outrage on social media.

In a statement signed by the CID’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, police confirmed that two of the suspect’s siblings, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, were also taken into custody.
The pair allegedly attempted to attack a female tenant they believed had recorded and shared the video. Officers intervened promptly, rescuing the tenant and ensuring her safety.
The CID also revealed that efforts are underway to locate the victim, who reportedly fled before police arrived. Her safety and welfare, the statement said, remain a top priority for investigators.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its strong stance against domestic violence, assuring the public that perpetrators will be held accountable.
The service further urged citizens to report all instances of abuse without delay.
