June 4: NDC launches 2026 ‘NDC Month’ with nationwide events honouring Rawlings’ legacy

The National Democratic Congress has officially launched activities for its annual NDC Month celebration for June 2026, unveiling a nationwide programme centred on political reflection, civic engagement, and institutional accountability.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the party’s headquarters in Adabraka, Accra, on Friday, May 15, 2026, NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey said the annual observance provides an opportunity for the party to reflect on its history, renew its ideological commitment, and reconnect with its vision for governance and national development.
According to him, this year’s month-long programme, which officially begins on May 15, will be held under the theme "Strengthening State Institutions: Lessons from the June 4, 1979 Uprising".
Kwetey explained that the June 4 uprising remains a significant moment in Ghana’s political history, representing the values of accountability, discipline in leadership, integrity in public office, and social justice.
He noted that these principles continue to shape the NDC’s political philosophy and remain key to the government’s ongoing “Reset Agenda” being championed by President John Dramani Mahama.
According to the party, the Reset Agenda is aimed at rebuilding confidence in public institutions, improving transparency, and strengthening governance systems to better serve Ghanaians.

The NDC General Secretary also paid tribute to former President Jerry John Rawlings, describing him as the founding figure of the party and a major force in Ghana’s democratic journey.
He praised Rawlings for his dedication to probity, accountability, and social justice, adding that his legacy continues to influence the party’s direction and political identity.
As part of the NDC Month celebrations, the party announced a series of activities scheduled across the country.
A public lecture will be organised in the Banda Constituency on June 3 to discuss the historical significance of the June 4 uprising and its relevance to strengthening state institutions.
On June 4, commemorative activities including flag-raising ceremonies, wreath-laying, and a durbar involving chiefs and residents will take place in the Bono Region to mark the anniversary of the uprising.
June 10 has been designated as NDC Day, with activities focusing on the party’s ideological foundations and promoting greater participation of women and young people in politics.

The party will also observe Cadres Day in Kumasi on June 19 under the theme "Ensuring Transparent Governance: The Role of Cadres", aimed at encouraging grassroots accountability and political responsibility.
The month-long activities will climax on June 22 with Founder’s Day celebrations, during which the NDC headquarters will officially be named after Jerry John Rawlings alongside the unveiling of a bust in his honour.
Kwetey stressed that the programme goes beyond ceremonial events and is intended to deepen political education, national reflection, and civic participation, particularly among the youth.
He further called on party supporters, sympathisers, and the general public to actively participate in the commemorative activities while promoting unity, patriotism, and discipline throughout the celebrations.
The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening democratic governance, building resilient state institutions, and promoting accountability and inclusiveness in Ghana’s political system.
