How Ohene Kwame Frimpong was arrested in Amsterdam revealed

Independent Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, was reportedly arrested by Dutch security officials at Schiphol Airport shortly after arriving from Ghana on a KLM flight linked to an alleged romance scam and money laundering investigation.
How the arrest unfolded
According to sources, the lawmaker departed Kotoka International Airport on Saturday, May 9, aboard KLM Flight 590. The aircraft reportedly took off from Gate C7 at about 10:10 p.m. before landing in Amsterdam at approximately 4:36 GMT on Sunday.
Reports indicate that shortly after the plane landed, a team of Dutch security officials boarded the aircraft and headed directly to the business class section where Ohene Kwame Frimpong was seated alongside another senior government official.

The officials allegedly identified the MP, informed him of his rights, and placed him in handcuffs before escorting him off the plane into a waiting security vehicle.
He was later taken into detention for further investigations.
Allegations linked to romance scams and money laundering
The arrest is reportedly connected to allegations involving romance scams and money laundering. However, Dutch authorities have not yet publicly released detailed information regarding the investigation or any formal charges.
The incident has since generated widespread public attention in Ghana following reports of the detention of the Asante Akyem North legislator.

Parliament reacts to detention
Ghana’s Parliament earlier confirmed that it had been informed about the detention of Ohene Kwame Frimpong in the Netherlands.
In a statement signed by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Parliament disclosed that the Rt. Hon. Speaker and leadership of the House were engaging Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague to gather more details surrounding the case.
Meanwhile, former Asante Akyem North MP Andy Appiah-Kubi has urged the public to remain calm and avoid drawing conclusions until investigations and legal proceedings are completed.
