Government declares April 3 and 6 as public holidays

The Ministry of the Interior Ghana has officially declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as statutory public holidays in observance of this year’s Easter celebrations.
In a statement released on Monday, March 30, the Ministry confirmed that the two dates marking Good Friday and Easter Monday will be recognised nationwide.

The announcement provides an opportunity for Christians across the country to commemorate one of the most significant periods in the Christian calendar, which reflects on the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Good Friday, observed on April 3, commemorates the crucifixion, while Easter Monday, on April 6, continues the celebrations following the resurrection.

In Ghana, Easter is widely celebrated through church services, family gatherings, and various social activities. Notably, destinations such as Kwahu are expected to witness large turnouts during the annual festivities.
The interior minister urged the public to observe the holidays responsibly and in accordance with the law, while also reflecting on the spiritual importance of the season.
“The general public is hereby informed that Friday, 3rd April 2026, and Monday, 6th April, mark Good Friday and Easter Monday, respectively, which are statutory public holidays and should be observed as such throughout the country," the statement said.
