A 43-year-old farmer has been remanded into prison custody by the Asante Abuakwa Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality for allegedly raping a deaf and mute woman in a bush, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) reports.

The accused, Abdulai Yussif, pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to reappear before the court, presided over by Rosemond Dodua Agyiri, on December 11.

According to the prosecution, led by Police Detective Chief Inspector Samuel Kyei Baffour, the incident occurred on July 14, 2025. The 40-year-old victim, who lives with her grandmother at Afreseni near Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South-West District, was on her way to the family farm at around 10:00 a.m. when she realised Yussif was following her.

Chief Inspector Baffour told the court that the victim stepped aside to allow the accused to pass, but he allegedly seized her hand, dragged her into a nearby bush, forcibly undressed her, and sexually assaulted her.

After the alleged act, Yussif reportedly gave the victim GHS 200 and warned her not to reveal what had happened. The victim later informed her grandmother, who immediately lodged a complaint with the Mankranso Police.

The suspect was arrested shortly afterward and, according to the prosecution, admitted in his caution statement to committing the offence. Following investigations, he was charged and brought before the court.
