Former Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has described current Ghana head coach Otto Addo as an exceptional tactician and consummate professional, praising his leadership and impact on the national team.
Addo, who came under intense scrutiny after Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the country’s first such absence in over twenty years, has since restored faith by guiding the team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico next summer.
This historic feat makes Addo the first coach in Ghanaian football history to lead the Black Stars to consecutive World Cup appearances, a milestone that has elevated his status both domestically and internationally.
In an exclusive interview with 3Sports, Hughton lauded Addo’s tactical acumen, professionalism, and character.
“Otto Addo is a very good coach. He has now taken the team to two World Cups—not something many coaches achieve,” Hughton said.
“He is a good coach. As an individual, I like him a lot.”
Hughton, who managed the Black Stars during the 2023 AFCON and later served as a technical advisor during Addo’s first tenure, emphasised that Addo’s approach combines strategic intelligence with strong leadership, qualities that have helped stabilize and elevate the team on the international stage.
With the 2026 World Cup draw scheduled for December 5, the Black Stars and their fans eagerly await to see which group-stage opponents they will face, as they prepare to continue Ghana’s proud footballing tradition under Addo’s guidance.
