Black Sherif faces legal action over GHC229K rent debt

The District Court 1 in Adentan Fafraha has directed award-winning musician Mohammed Ismail Sherif, popularly known as Black Sherif, to settle an outstanding rent bill of GHC229,500 owed on a residential property in Accra.
The order follows the court’s approval of a substituted service application after multiple attempts to serve the artist in person proved unsuccessful.
In accordance with the ruling, copies of the amended writ, summons, particulars of claim, and hearing notice were posted both on the court’s notice board and at House No. 4, Recreational Close, NTHC Estate, Adjiriganor — the property Black Sherif is said to have occupied.
The action was initiated by property owner Dr. Evelyn Esi Awittor, who alleges that the musician has failed to pay rent since August 2024.
The amount claimed will attract interest at the prevailing bank rate until it is fully discharged.

Additionally, the court directed that Black Sherif continue to pay monthly rent of USD 1,700 (converted to Ghana cedis at current market rates) until he formally vacates the premises.
With the substituted service granted, legal proceedings are expected to continue despite the musician’s absence from court.
